Y4 AUTUMN 2 SCIENCE (ELECTRICITY) - 10/12/20

We used our work on switches to investigate which materials would allow electricity to pass through. We discovered that metals allowed the bulb to light when we used them to make a switch.

Y4 DRESS UP FOR CHRISTMAS - 11/12/20

Today, Class 4 supported MISSION CHRISTMAS and Cash for Kids by donating a minimum of one pound, to dress up Christmassy. Cash for Kids responds to the needs of children in our communities so they can live life to the full and realise their individual potential. Based across different areas in the UK, at the heart of your favourite radio stations, Cash for Kids support children aged 0-18 who are disabled, disadvantaged or suffering from abuse or neglect. THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT. Together, we can make a difference.

COMING HOME, MICHAEL MORPURGO - AUTUMN 2 - 25/11/20

Today, the children in Class 4 continued to explore the book, Coming Home. We discussed reading and preparing poems to read aloud and to perform, showing understanding through intonation, tone, volume and action. With only a small practice, the children performed a section of the poem that we luckily captured on this iPad recording.

Y4 SCIENCE (ELECTRICITY) - AUTUMN 2 - 19/11/20

Y4 GYMNASTICS - AUTUMN 2 - 2/11/20

In gymnastics, it's important to learn how to control the muscles in your body and to learn the basic shapes. This half term, Year 4 will be working with Mr Anderson, Primary Sports Coordinator, in learning that these are not just the fundamental skills needed in gymnastics they are also needed in many other sports.

Y4 SCIENCE - AUTUMN 1 - VOLUME INVESTIGATION

Class 4 investigated what happened to the volume as sounds as the sound source moved further away. Most of us predicted that the sound would get quieter. We thought that it might be because the vibrations had to travel further.

Y4 AUTUMN 1 SCIENCE - SOUND

In our Science topic on Sound, we have been investigating how sounds travel as vibrations. We found that if we tapped a metal coat hanger hanging from an elastic band, we could hear the sound much more loudly when the sound travelled as vibrations through the band to our ear instead of through the air.

Y4 YCB CRICKET - AUTUMN 1 - 14/09/20

Class 4 were excited to welcome Jamie Sykes from Yorkshire Cricket. Jamie will be delivering 6 weeks of COVID19 safe, fun and inclusive sessions for our pupils. The aim is to keep our pupils physically active and have fun whilst in a learning environment. Due to the epidemic we know the children are desperate to get back playing and now Y4 will have the programme and high-quality staff to help them achieve this.

Y4 NSPCC PANTS - AUTUMN 1 - 25/09/20

Along with many schools across the country at Stanningley Primary School we use the NSPCC Pantosaurus rule to help to teach children about keeping themselves safe. With the help of the friendly Pantosaurus dinosaur adults both at school and at home can teach children about how to stay safe from abuse. At a level appropriate for their own age, all children learn about how the parts of their bodies which are covered by our underwear are private parts and are not for other people to see or touch and how important it is to talk to someone about anything which upsets or worries you. Today, Class 4 were introduced to the NSPCC singing dinosaur video to introduce the very important PANTS acronym. The children loved singing along with Pantosaurus whilst learning the key PANTS messages. HELP YOUR CHILD TO STAY SAFE BY TALKING PANTS.

Y4 SCHOOL COUNCIL SPEECHES - AUTUMN 1 - 21/09/20

In English, the children have been working really hard to write a persuasive speech. Linking closely with one of our PSHE units the children have learnt about democracy and why it is important to use your vote wisely. Today, the children who were interested in becoming a class councilor read out their speeches to the entire class to persuade their classmates that they should be elected as the class representative for school council. The children showed great confidence and the Year 4 Team were all very proud. Good luck to you all, when the council election takes place this week.

WELCOME TO YEAR 4
